Job Description Job Description Position: Pump Mechanic (Multiple Openings) Location: Chicago, IL (South Side) Shift: Primarily 2nd Shift | 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM (Training on 1st Shift) Compensation: $24 – $35/hour (Highly experienced candidates may reach $37–$38/hour) Employment Type: Direct Hire A highly respected industrial rotating equipment service company in Chicago is expanding its mechanical repair team and looking to add multiple Pump Mechanics due to increased demand for industrial equipment rebuild and repair services. This organization is recognized globally for its expertise in industrial pump repair, refurbishment, and reliability services, supporting critical industries such as power generation, chemical processing, manufacturing, and energy. The company is experiencing steady growth and is expanding its shop operations to keep up with increasing demand for pump rebuilds and rotating equipment diagnostics. This role provides the opportunity to work on large, complex industrial pump systems and rotating equipment, giving mechanics exposure to advanced repair techniques, dynamic balancing, and precision mechanical diagnostics in a highly specialized environment. Pump Mechanic Pump Mechanics are responsible for the disassembly, inspection, repair, and rebuilding of industrial pumps and rotating equipment in a shop environment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with equipment that operates at high RPMs and tight tolerances. Mechanics will work with a variety of industrial pump systems and use precision tools and balancing equipment to ensure rebuilt components meet strict operational standards. Key Responsibilities - Disassemble and inspect industrial pumps and rotating equipment - Diagnose mechanical failures and determine repair requirements - Rebuild pumps and rotating assemblies including shafts, rotors, bearings, and seals - Perform rotor and component balancing to ensure proper operation at high RPM - Interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and assembly diagrams - Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges - Operate manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric shop tools - Utilize overhead cranes and lifting equipment to safely move large components - Work collaboratively with machinists and other mechanics to complete rebuilds Ideal Background Candidates with experience working on rotating mechanical equipment tend to transition very well into this role. Typical backgrounds include: - Pump mechanics - Millwrights - Rotating equipment technicians - Compressor rebuild technicians - Turbine mechanics - Industrial maintenance mechanics Qualifications - 3–7 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience in an industrial or shop environment - Experience disassembling and rebuilding rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, or motors - Ability to read mechanical drawings and assembly diagrams - Experience using precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gauges) - Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability - Comfortable using manual, pneumatic, and power tools Highly Preferred - Experience rebuilding industrial pumps - Dynamic rotor balancing experience - Millwright training or trade school education - Experience operating forklifts or overhead cranes Work Environment This is a hands-on mechanical rebuild environment, where technicians work together to solve complex mechanical problems and restore large industrial pumps to operational condition. The shop is clean, well-equipped, and focused on precision workmanship and technical craftsmanship.
