Opportunity: Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is
seeking an experienced Platform Database Engineer in Boston, MA or
Stevens Point, WI. The role requires strong technical,
organizational, and analytical skills, plus the ability to manage
projects independently and in teams. Supporting a global
organization, this position may involve occasional night and
weekend work. Candidates will complete a technical screening and
formal interviews if selected by management. Duties &
Responsibilities: Install, configure, and maintain database
instances and management processes, including monitoring system
health and performance metrics, to ensure high levels of security,
performance, availability, and resilience. Design, develop,
implement, and maintain processes using T-SQL, SQL, PowerShell and
Azure Data Factory. Define and Implement data access controls and
monitoring. Respond promptly to and resolve database-related
alerts, emails, and tickets. Independently analyze, solve, and
correct issues in real-time, providing end-to-end problem
resolution. Maintain schema changes and scripts using version
control (Visual Studio, TFS, DevOps). Work with teams that are
geographically dispersed and comprised of all disciplines, such as
architects, business analysts, developers and testers. Educate
teams on best practices and provide guidance on complex query
tuning and schema refinement. Follow established team standards.
For any gap, recommend new or updated standards. Be proactive in
identifying areas of improvement. Document and update processes and
procedures when appropriate. Take ownership, support, and follow
through on assigned deliverables, adjusting well to changes in
priority. Develop accurate estimates of effort and timelines.
Ensure that all assignments are completed accurately and within
approved delivery schedules. Demonstrate a willingness and
commitment to learn. Perform scheduled maintenance and support
release deployment activities, including off-hours. At times
provide off-hours support, including weekends and holidays, on
rotation. Other duties may be assigned, directed or requested.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: Minimum of 8 years of MS SQL
Server database administration experience, demonstrating
experience/knowledge of typical DBA tasks, including: Backups,
restores, recovery models, patching, disaster recovery.
Implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance.
Security, data and schema standards and concepts. Performance
Tuning & Optimization, indexes, index management, and statistics.
Strong proficiency with T-SQL programming (joins, views, stored
procedures, functions, etc.), database design and optimization
techniques. Proficient on OLTP / OLAP / ER Diagrams / Internal
Engine / Index Tuning / Statistics / Execution Plans / SP
Optimization / Partitioning / Normalization / Denormalization. 5 or
more years of hands-on working knowledge Azure and MS SQL Server,
MariaDB, PostgreSQL, etc. Experience working with Enterprise Data
Warehouse teams and Data Analytics teams preferred. BHSI Offers: A

range for this position in Stevens Point, WI is $75,000 to
$110,000, along with annual bonus eligibility. For the position
based in Boston, MA, the base salary range is $75,000 to $110,000
along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a
candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and
